It’s Good Friday and it’s 10.50am and I’m still in my dressing gown! I’ve just messaged our coffee morning speaker for next week to apologise for cancelling coffee morning. It’s time to take some time out. We are always reassuring new mums (and experienced mums) that it’s ok to rest whilst the baby is sleeping etc etc and that it’s absolutely right that we women look after ourselves, are kind to ourselves and nurture ourselves because we are the glue that holds the family together. But we’re not very good at taking our own advice! Our first year has been so busy, and we’re grateful for that of course – we’ve increased the areas our antenatal classes/courses are held in, increased our pregnancy yoga and mother and baby yoga classes too – but doing so much can leave you depleted of energy. And when you add in looking after our own families………
So why do I feel guilty sitting here in my dressing gown and nearly 11am and having to cancel something planned? Why do most of the women/mothers I talk to feel the same? I came across this article – http://www.hitchedmag.com/article.php?id=1209 – that suggests taking a day out for yourself very few weeks helps us to look after our families. So today I’m going to give myself my own medicine! I may get dressed in a bit..or I may not! Happy Easter everyone from Helen X
